The Mathematics program

Why study Mathematics at SPSU?
A firm basis in mathematical theories and applications helps lay a solid foundation for any number of careers -- whether as a teacher, a systems analyst or an actuary for an insurance company. At Southern Polytechnic, you will not only learn the fundamentals of mathematics, but you will learn them in a close, friendly environment in small, highly interactive classes.

About the program
The Mathematics program provides service courses to every degree offered by Southern Polytechnic, in addition to offering the B.A., B.S., and minor in Mathematics.

The faculty
The faculty come from around the world -- Scotland, Lebanon, and Uruguay, to name a few places -- as well as from various parts of the U.S. All Math faculty hold a master's degree or Ph.D. in Mathematics, with a wide range of specialties.

Are there learning opportunities outside the classroom?
The Mathematics department holds daily help sessions for students, and our math majors run these sessions. Math majors also serve as recitation leaders for our college algebra courses.

What can I do with a Mathematics degree?
Math graduates are top candidates for positions as computer programmers, systems analysts, actuarial trainees, statisticians, and teachers.

Will I find employment?
Most of our students accept positions in the actuarial profession upon graduating from SPSU. Those who do not proceed directly into the work force enter graduate programs.
