The International Technical Communication program
Why study International Technical Communication at SPSU?
Before the inception of SPSU's International Technical Communication program, the only way to
earn a degree in the field was to attend expensive, out-of-state or private universities.
Southern Poly has responded to the need for individuals with global communication skills, and
we've responded to our students' need for an outstanding program at a fraction of the cost.
About the program
Leading to the Bachelor of Arts in International Technical Communication, our program will
prepare you to communicate effectively as an international technical writer. In addition to
the standard core curriculum, we offer courses in business communication, technical writing,
media and graphic communication, and advanced grammar and editing, as well as courses in foreign
languages, cultural studies, and global issues.
The faculty
Our faculty is highly respected, experienced, and grounded in technical writing theory and world
experience. Our professors have taught internationally in Europe and Asia. Many have a special
interest in expanding SPSU's presence in international venues.
Are there learning opportunities outside the classroom?
SPSU students are members of a number of extracurricular organizations, including the Society
of Technical Communication and the National Association of Science Writers. We encourage our
students to take advantage of internship and co-op opportunities in nearby Atlanta.
What can I do with an International Technical Communication degree?
With a Bachelor of Arts in International Technical Communication, you'll open the door to a
variety of exciting work experiences. You may choose to work in software development, computer
hardware supply, telecommunications, international consulting, hospitality, banking, or
manufacturing. You'll also have the opportunity to work internationally and develop
professional relationships with people of different ethnicities and cultures.
Will I find employment?
The increasing demand for technical writers worldwide and the quality of our degree programs
means that there is a consistently high demand for SPSU's International Technical Communication
graduates.
