The Electrical Engineering Technology program

Why study Electrical Engineering Technology at SPSU?
Electronics is a relatively new science, but it has given birth to an industrial giant. Electrical engineering technology is a branch of electronics and engineering that emphasizes the practical aspects of engineering by incorporating science, engineering knowledge, and the technical skills required to support engineering activities. Students interested in medical electronics, automation, instrumentation, radar, and robotics are ideal candidates are ideal for the Electrical Engineering Technology program.

About the program
The Electrical Engineering Technology major incorporates courses in Engineering Technology, Math, and Management in addition to required core classes. Courses such as Data Communications and Signal and Systems Analysis ultimately lead to the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology.

The faculty
The Electrical Engineering Technology faculty ensures that students receive the best possible education within the classroom and through extracurricular organizations. Dr. Scott Tippen advises the student chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), where he assists students with their entries for the National Robotics Contests and serves as a mentor. Both as mentors and as teachers, the faculty are experts in their fields, having worked in the professional arena, conducted extensive academic research, and designed relevant applications.

Are there learning opportunities outside the classroom?
The student chapter of IEEE is extremely active on campus, and all students are encouraged to participate. Currently, the group is working on the IEEE Linux/Mosix project, codenamed Hydrix, with the intention to implement and maintain a supercomputing Linux cluster with x86 PCs. Students are also encouraged to participate in internships and co-op opportunities, which abound in nearby Atlanta and across the country.

What can I do with an Electrical Engineering Technology degree?
Electrical engineering technologists are in demand in all phases of development, design, production, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Will I find employment?
The Electrical Engineering Technology department maintains a job search database designed to assist students in finding jobs, internship positions, and co-op opportunities in the field. Major corporations located in Atlanta are constantly seeking qualified graduates of the Electrical Engineering Technology program at SPSU.
