Residential Areas - University Commons (Greek Housing)

University Commons

The Commons was first opened in 1997 and while on the university campus was privately owned and managed. Starting in August of 2004 University Commons became part of the university’s Residence Life operation. University Commons provides students who desire more independent living and year round housing a convenient on campus environment. The Commons provides students attractive accommodations, spacious floor plans, and individual rooms for each student assigned to a unit.

There are two person and four person units available in this apartment complex. The two person units provide each student with their own bathroom while the four person units have four students sharing two bathrooms. All units have fully equipped kitchens with bar style seating. The units also come with a washer and dryer that is shared by the residents of the unit. There is a common living room area that is equipped with a sofa, two lounge chairs, a coffee table, and two end tables. Bedrooms are each equipped with a full size bed, built in desk and closet, a bureau and night stand. Each apartment also has either a patio if on the first floor or a balcony if on the second or third floor of the unit.

University Courtyard

Opened in August 2004, University Courtyard Apartments provides the most modern, spacious, and desirable student housing to be found on campus and just about anywhere else.

The Courtyard apartment units accommodate four students with each student having their own room and bathroom. Each bedroom comes with a full size bed, a desk and chair, built in closet, dresser, and night stand. The living room comes with a sofa, two chairs, coffee table, two end tables, and a small entertainment center. The kitchens are fully equipped and include a dining area with a table and four chairs. Each unit also has a washer and dryer, and either a balcony or patio. Those units facing the central walkway into the complex have a front porch area with a walkway to the central walkway. The main entrance to each unit also comes equipped with card access rather than key access.

Apartment Housing Specifics

1. Students who wish to live in one of the apartment complexes must agree to live there on a year round basis. Only twelve month contracts are offered.

2. The apartment units in both complexes come with fully equipped kitchens and are designed to allow students to cook their own meals, therefore, students who reside there are not required to participate in any meal plan through the university’s food service. However, students who would like to be on a meal plan may purchase one.

3. Apartment rent is due on or before the first day of each month. Students who make late payments are penalized and face removal from their assignment. Failure to make payment does not release a student from their contractual obligations even if they are removed from residence.

4. The university will not grant immunity to any student from the terms of the apartment contract due to financial aid issues. Students who do not receive their financial aid awards when expected must still make payment in accordance with the contract they have agreed to.

5. The university will not intervene in the business affairs of apartment students and utility companies. This includes phone service, internet service, and cable TV service.

6. Students are not allowed to subscribe to satellite TV as this would require the attachment of “dishes” to buildings and the attachment of TV reception devices of any kind to buildings is expressly prohibited.

7. Students may not conduct a business out of their apartment.

8. Students may not sublet their space in an apartment to anyone else and they may not rent any space in an apartment to another person in order to reduce their personal costs or for any other purpose. Only students who have a contract with the university shall be allowed to reside in apartment facilities. (Further information regarding rules and or regulations for the university apartment complexes can be found in the Current Students section of this website under Residential Policies and Procedures.)
