SPSU MIssion Statement

Sustainability Initiative

Statement about commitment to sustainability

by Prof. Robert Thacker, Management

My commitment is to provide our students with the leadership, business and technical skills necessary to solve the energy and environmental crisis we face.  Quite frankly, I am tired of the rhetoric, politics, and lip service given to saving the environment and sustainable energy solutions.  We need to act, and act in an intelligent, planned and deliberate manner.  In doing so, I want to research, understand, apply, and validate real sustainable energy solutions.   Solutions and initiatives such as:

  • "Solarizing" the "J" Building or another campus building to research, demonstrate, and validate these technologies.
  • Establishing an Applied Sustainable Energy Research Center like Florida, North Carolina, and Arizona.
  • Retrofitting used cars with electric engines and batteries powered by solar voltaics.
  • Developing both a business and technical degree program based on clean alternative energy solutions.

As I have said before, we must be the "honest brokers" when it comes to understanding and implementing sustainable energy solutions.  People must trust, support, and appreciate SPSU for leading the way.  For the sake of our families, students, community and country, I hope SPSU is up to this challenge of learning, envisioning, leading, managing, implementing, and validating our sustainable campus.
