Basic SimCity Introduction
This 6-hour workshop for students provides an introduction to SimCity 4 Deluxe and hands-on experience in using SimCity. The
workshop includes tips on using SimCity to design their Future City based on the SimCity design rubric.
Complete City Workshop
This 12-hour workshop for students is a 2-day experience in designing and growing a city using SimCity 4 Deluxe. Participants
will be put into teams (school teams may work together) follow the rubric and experiment with various growth strategies and
complete a city.
Research and Write the Essay
This 6-hour workshop for students follows a process of design, research, write and edit to teach students the basic skills
they will need to write a research essay.
Plan and Build the Model
This 6-hour workshop for students includes exercises in determining scale, planning and using recycled materials to build
scale model elements.
Plan and Deliver the Presentation
This 6-hour workshop for students places students in teams to plan and deliver a presentation. The presentations will be video-taped
and critiqued and the team will have an opportunity to make improvements and deliver their improved presentation.
Future City Teacher Overview
This 6-hour workshop for teachers new to Future City provides an overview of the Future City competition, rubric for each
competition element (computer design, essay, city narrative, scale model and presentation). The workshop includes tips for
bringing your team(s) successfully through to the regional competition.
Model Design and Build
This 6-hour workshop for teachers is hosted by Fred Stillwell, a veteran Future City Teacher Sponsor, and will be held at
East Cobb Middle School. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with building a scale model and learn how to
help their student teams through this part of the competition.
Teacher Training Retreat
This 12-hour workshop is for both new and veteran Future City Teacher Sponsors. Over the two-day workshop teachers will work
in teams to complete each element of the Future City competition. Sessions will focus on the requirements for each element,
the rubric and score sheets, and hints and tips for success. The teams will then compete with their design in SimCity; create,
research and write an executive summary of their essay; design and build a mini scale model; and present their city to a team
of judges. By experiencing a Future City competition you will be better able to guide your students through the process. By
working closely with other teachers you will be able to share ideas and experiences.
