The overview is designed for teachers new to Future City.  For Students:

Plan and Deliver the Presentation
Saturday, September 17, 2011, 9 am – 3 pm on the SPSU campus at the Center for Teaching Excellence

This 6-hour workshop for students places students in teams to plan and deliver a presentation. The presentations will be video-taped and critiqued and the team will have an opportunity to make improvements and deliver their improved presentation.

 Research and Write the Essay

Saturday September 24, 2011, 9 am – 3 pm on the SPSU campus at the Center for Teaching Excellence

This 6-hour workshop for students follows a process of design, research, write and edit to teach students the basic skills they will need to write a research essay and develop the City Narrative.

 Plan and Build the Model

Saturday October 8, 2011, 9:30 am -1:30 pm on the SPSU campus in the Architecture Building

This 4-hour workshop will introduce students to basic modeling making skills such as measuring, scaling, and constructing basic proportional models from found materials. This will serve as an introduction to the relative sizes of humans and the environments which they inhabit, so that in January their competition models will more realistically and believably depict the relationships of humans and built space.

Please note that each of the four workshops described above will be offered at SPSU one time as noted. The workshops will be taped and available to view in segments online approximately 2 weeks after the initial workshop offering.

Youth Organization Pilot

The Georgia Region is encouraging Youth Organizations to register as a Future City site. Any organized Youth Organization (i.e. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, YMCAs, churches, etc.) can register as a Future City organization. These sites can then sponsor one or more Future City teams. The student members must be 6 th , 7 th or 8 th grade students and a staff member or volunteer from the organization can serve as the Teacher Sponsor. Through this effort we hope to make Future City accessible to even more middle school students. Contact Dawn Ramsey with questions.
