Lab 9 - Shift Register Design

In this lab we will explore the construction of a circuit utilizing a standard shift register component.

Problem Statement
For this lab you will be designing a sequential system that will drive 4 LEDs so that one LED appears to scan back and forth with the clock frequency. The scan pattern should look as follows (1=LED on and 0=LED off):

0 - 0 - 0 - 0 (reset state)

1 - 0 - 0 - 0

0 - 1 - 0 - 0

0 - 0 - 1 - 0

0 - 0 - 0 - 1

0 - 0 - 1 - 0

0 - 1 - 0 - 0

1 - 0 - 0 - 0

0 - 1 - 0 - 0

...

A reset switch should be connected to your circuit that will turn off all LEDs when active and allow the cycle to resume when not active. Each LED must be driven by a parallel output from the 74LS194.

Prelab Assignment
Draw the complete circuit necessary for implementing this design. Make sure to label all pin numbers on your diagram to document your work and aid you in the construction of your circuit. You should be able to present all supporting work such as truth tables and karnaugh maps.
