image: Bob BrownBrown received the master's degree in computer science from Southern Polytechnic State in 1995 when it was Southern College of Technology and has been teaching at SPSU since January, 1996. He's in the fourth year of the Ph.D. program at Nova Southeastern University. (Getting the Ph.D. takes four to seven years.)

Teaching has followed a 30-year career in information technology beginning in 1969, and in medical informatics since 1974 when I began working with the Medical Association of Georgia to develop the methodology for medical care review which assures quality and appropriateness of medical care for Medicare patients.

I teach because it's rewarding to help students have the "Aha! experience," and that happens several times each term. (This used to say, "because it's fun..." until a student asked me whether I was making fun of students. I think everything that's rewarding is also fun, but I agree that not everything that's fun is also rewarding. And no, I am not making fun of students; it is the reward of seeing the "Aha!" that keeps me here. It makes me feel really good to help others learn the things that I know and to learn new things myself in the process.)

Quote without (very much) comment "A very famous writer once said, 'A book is like a mirror. If a fool looks in, you can't expect a genius to look out.'"
      –J. K. Rowling on NBC's 'Today Show,' October 20, 2000
I am pretty sure the writer was B. C. Forbes of Forbes magazine, and Forbes was less kind than Rowling. He wrote, "If an ass looks in..."
