10th Annual CMD Fundraiser on 09/29/2011

CM Department Held their 10th Annual Banquet at Cobb Galleria The Construction Management (CM) Department held their 10 th Annual Construction Industry Advisory Board Banquet at the Cobb Galleria on Sept. 29, 2011. The event was a resounding success with sold out 250 slots for participants. The dinner and dance celebration raised moneys for scholarships and for the advancement of the Construction Management Department, which offers both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. Besides all CM Industry Board member organizations, numerous subcontractors, material suppliers, Trade associations, Construction management Department faculty and SPSU administrators participated in the event. “As a beneficiary of the Industry Advisory Board Scholarship, I have been able to focus more on my curricular and extracurricular objectives than on financing my education,” said Trent Anderson, who expects to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in construction management next summer . “The generous support I have received from the SPSU Construction Management Department and the advisory board has aided me in accomplishing many of the goals I had set for myself when I began my higher education career here at SPSU.” The event also served as a networking opportunity for the SPSU undergraduates and graduate students, general contractors, subcontractors and construction vendors who participated in the fundraiser. The evening included cocktails and a silent auction featuring such items as a vacation stay at a mountain cabin or beach cottage, flat-screen TVs, tools, sports paraphernalia, event tickets and gift cards. Some contractors also donated their services to the auction. The raffle grand prize was 47 inch flat screen TV which was won by SPSU Alumni Nathan Reinhardt , who works for Dynaelectric. Nathan also was the Engineering Technology Student for the Year 2009. “These are the people we will be working with as we enter the workforce,” said James Walker, an SPSU senior volunteer for the Banquet. “For me, the best take-away was the relationships I was able to establish with the companies and professionals who participated.” This year’s fundraiser marks the 10 th anniversary of the founding of SPSU’s Construction Industry Advisory Board, made up of industry leaders, many of whom employ SPSU graduates. The event raised $ 40,000 which will be used for scholarships for the CM students and for advancement of the CM Department. “The growth and stability of the advisory board is a true testament to the SPSU faculty and industry representatives who over the years have been sincerely dedicated to the development of well-educated graduates,” said Don Davidson, a former advisory board chair and vice president of the SPSU Foundation Board of Trustees. “These graduates will grow to be the leaders in our industry.”
