Bachelors Degree Program Assessment Plans
The Department of Construction Management's academic quality plan for its bachelors degree program consists of the components described below. Quality plan is implemented through outcomes assessment and the frequency of evaluation is described by the Assessment Table. Based on the results of the outcomes an improvement plan is generated annually.
a. Undergraduate Degree Program Learning Outcomes Assessment
Each year Assessment plans for the bachelors degree program are developed. During the year the various outcomes are monitored and data collected on each measure. At the end of the assessment year, actual performance relative to each measure is determined and compared to the planned target. A comprehensive analysis is conducted and a formal Annual Report is developed.
Based on program learning outcomes, faculty develops the course learning outcomes. Faculty will be able to assess the students’ level of achievement of the program level outcome through the achievement of course level outcomes. The level of achievement of learning outcomes is tied to assignments or quizzes or exams or project. At the beginning of the semester faculty sets the target level of achievement and collects the required data during the semester. At the end of the semester faculty assess the results of each course outcome. These results are compared with stated targets and based on the results each faculty proposes an action plan for the following semester.c. Undergraduate Capstone Project Evaluation
Each undergraduate capstone project is evaluated by construction industry professionals and faculty using department’s standard format. The results of these evaluations are summarized and used by the department chair in the assessment of program level outcomes and to identify the areas of improvements to be incorporated in relevant courses/syllabi.
d. Undergraduate Student Course Evaluations
The university requires that the student course evaluations be conducted using a standard format at the end of every semester. The evaluations are completed by the students and results made available to the respective faculty. In addition, the department chair has access to them and is utilized in annual faculty evaluations. e. Undergraduate Student Exit Interviews
During the month prior to graduation, all undergraduate degree students meet with the department chair to participate in an exit interview utilizing a standard department survey format The results of these interviews are summarized and used by the department chair in the assessment of the faculty, staff, curriculum, facilities and services utilized by the department. f. Undergraduate Degree Program Three Year Out Alumni Survey
Three years following graduation all undergraduate alumni are sent a standard department survey format and asked to complete and return it. The results of these surveys are summarized and used by the department chair in the assessment of the faculty, staff, curriculum, facilities and services utilized by the department. Refer to Appendix P for Undergraduate Alumni Three Year Out Survey form
g. Undergraduate Degree Three Year Out Alumni Employer Survey
Three years following graduation all undergraduate alumni are also sent a standard department format and asked to give to their employer to complete and return to the department. The results of these surveys are summarized and used by the department chair in the assessment of the curriculum utilized by the department. Refer to Appendix R for Undergraduate Alumni Employer Three Year Out Survey form.
h. Faculty Feedback
Faculty shares their opinion and suggestions to improve quality of CM program during monthly faculty meetings.
i. Industry Advisory Board Feedback
CM industry advisory board provides feedback at regular advisory board meetings. This feedback assists in modifying the course(s) content or revises the curriculum if needed. This feedback also helps in developing the required skill set in students to cater the industry needs.
