Learning outcomes for Chem 1211:

(1)  identify the general properties of matter.

(2)  name and classify inorganic compounds.

(3)  identify empirical and molecular formulas.

(4)  balance chemical equations.

(5)  identify and predict outcomes of reactions.

(6)  comprehend gas and thermodynamic laws.

(7)  comprehend quantum theory and periodicity.

MATH 1111 is prerequisite for this course. Regular attendance is advised. Please note that should you miss class for any reason, you are responsible for all material discussed in class. You must pass the laboratory and take the final examination to receive credit for the course.

NO MAKE-UPS FOR HOURLY QUIZZES WILL BE GIVEN. If you have to miss an hourly quiz for any reason, you will receive a zero for that quiz.

Homework problems will be assigned. Similar or identical problems may appear on each test.

The textbook is: Chemistry,7th ed., by Zumdahl and Zumdahl, Houghton-Mifflin, 2007. The lab manual Experiments in General Chemistry 2nd Ed. by Duff and Gabrielli is required;

The last day to withdraw from a class without penalty is Thursday, Oct. 11. Monday, Sept. 3 is Labor Day holiday. Nov. 21 - 25 is Thanksgiving Break.
