meet with a counselor in the Career and Counseling Center.
In that session, the counselor will determine which assessments to utilize from an extensive list.

Listed below are some of the more common instruments utilized in career counseling. The SPSU Career and Counseling Center utilizes a variety of assessment tools to help students determine what majors and careers best fit their individual qualities.

The Holland Self-Directed Search (SDS) will provide valuable career information, whether you are looking to choose a college major, begin a job search, or are thinking about a career change,. Your SDS report can help you to understand more about yourself and how your individual skills and interests are related to your career choice. You can then explore the careers you are most likely to find satisfying based upon your interests and skills. No one assessment can tell you what career to pursue. Only you can make that decision. You should consider your SDS results in combination with other sources of career information, including detailed descriptions of occupations, additional assessments, or career counselors. |

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality profile designed to explore and identify individual preferences. This tool helps students explore eight different areas of preference. It assists one in answering questions such as, “How do I gather information? Do I prefer to rely on my intuition or do I rely on the facts that I see?” These are just a few areas the MBTI helps students explore. It is one of the most widely used personality profiles in helping students gain self-awareness, understand others, and explore career options.
