Prerequisites: MGNT 4151 or equivalent
A survey of production/operations management. Topics include quality control and improvement, project management, forecasting, production planning, scheduling, material requirements and capacity planning, inventory management, just-in-time/total quality management, international operations and strategic considerations.
 
OPSM 6006 Service and Production Operations Management II 3-0-3
Prerequisite: MGNT 4151 or equivalent, OPSM 6005
This course is a continuation of OPSM 6005 with a focus on comparative manufacturing systems. The course analyzes modern production systems (job shops, FMSs, etc.) and control/operating policies (push vs. pull, JIT, Kanban, etc.) and discusses their applicability to various competitive environments.
 
OPSM 6025 Purchasing Management 3-0-3
Prerequisites: MGNT 3145 or equivalent, MGNT 4151 or equivalent
Study of the activities, responsibilities, relationships and system involved in the purchase of materials, services and capital equipment. Topics include identifying requirements; evaluating and selecting "best value" vendors; techniques for planning and executing the purchasing function, including fundamentals of negotiating, ethical and legal aspects of purchasing; interactions with the engineering, quality, manufacturing, materials management, transportation and legal functions and with suppliers; and international aspects of purchasing. Purchasing responsibility for quality, delivery, inventory, price and contribution to profit are also covered.
