CHEM 2211 General Chemistry I 3-3-4
Prerequisite: MATH 1111
An introduction to the fundamentals of chemistry. Subject matter includes atomic theory, stoichiometry, reactions in solutions, gases, electronic structure of atoms, covalent bonding and molecular structure. The laboratory exercises supplement the class work.
 
CHEM 2212 General Chemistry II 3-2-4
Prerequisite: CHEM 2211
A continuation of the coverage of basic chemical principles begun in CHEM 2211. Topics include properties of the solid and liquid states, properties of solutions, chemical equilibrium, properties of acids and bases, acid-base equilibria, chemical thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, and organic chemistry. A significant portion of the laboratory will involve the qualitative identification of cations and anions.
 
CHEM 2510 Survey of Organic Chemistry 2-0-2
Prerequisite: CHEM 2211
A survey of the chemistry of the compounds of carbon. Topics include a study of the synthesis, reactions, and properties of acyclic and cyclic compounds and their derivatives.
 
CHEM 2511 Organic Chemistry I  3-3-4
Prerequisite: CHEM 2212
An introductions to the chemistry of the compounds of carbon. Topics include a study of the synthesis, reactions, reaction mechanisms, and properties of acylic and cyclic compounds and their derivatives. Laboratory exercises supplement classroom work.
 
CHEM 2512 Organic Chemistry II  3-3-4
Prerequisite: CHEM 2511
A continuation of the study of organic molecules. Topics include a survey of heterocycles, natural products and synthetic polymers. Laboratory exercises supplement classroom work.
 
CHEM 3100 Analytical Chemistry 3-6-5
Prerequisite: CHEM 2212
An introduction to classical and instrumental methods of quantitative analysis and their underlying principles. Laboratory exercises supplement classroom work.
 
CHEM 3300 Instrumental Analysis 2-6-4
Prerequisite: CHEM 2212
Principles of operation and application of instrumental methods including ultraviolet/visible and infrared spectroscopy, atomic absorption and emission, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, chromatography, and electrochemistry. Laboratory exercises supplement classroom work.

CHEM 4111 Physical Chemistry I 3-3-4
Prerequisite: CHEM 2512, MATH 2254
An introduction to the physical laws, theoretical principles, and mathematical relationships in chemistry, particularly in regard to chemical thermodynamics, equilibrium, electrochemistry, and changes of state. Laboratory exercises supplement classroom work.
 
CHEM 4112 Physical Chemistry II 3-0-3
Prerequisite: CHEM 4111
A continuation of the coverage begun in Physical Chemistry I. Topics include chemical kinetics, an introduction to quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics. The laboratory is optional.
 
CHEM 4113 Physical Chemistry II Lab 0-3-1
Prerequisite: CHEM 4111, Corequisite: CHEM 4112
Laboratory exercises which compliment the material covered in CHEM 4112, Physical Chemistry II.
