Co-op Eligibility Requirements

Students who wish to participate in the co-op program must meet with the co-op coordinator and register their co-op before going to work.  Students cannot register a co-op after they have begun working.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time (12 hrs) - Fall & Spring semesters or half-time (6 hrs) - Summer the semester prior to beginning your 1st work rotation.   If you are enrolled part-time in the summer, you must have completed a full-time term the preceding spring.
  • Must have declared a major
  • Possess a minimum 2.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • 24 semester hours completed toward a degree (can include transfer hours)
  • Transfer students and freshmen entering with 24+ credit hours must complete one semester at SPSU and have a SPSU GPA.
  • Have at least three school semesters remaining after the first work rotation
  • Must commit to work three (3) alternating work periods with the same employer

GRADUATE STUDENTS

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time (9 hrs) - Fall & Spring semesters or (6 hrs) - Summer the semester prior to beginning the 1st work rotation.   If you are enrolled part-time in the summer, you must have completed a full-time term the preceding spring.
  • Complete 9 credit hours in a SPSU graduate program
  • Possess a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Have at least two semesters remaining after the first work rotation
  • Must commit to work two (2) alternating work periods with the same employer

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Because of the full-time work requirement, international students with restricted work authorization cannot participate in the SPSU Co-op Program, but are encouraged to participate in the SPSU Internship Program.  Before beginning your internship search, please review the CPT guidelines on the International Student Services page and meet with Julie Sharpe, Coordinator of International Student Services.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have completed 24 credit hours towards a degree
  • Must have and maintain a 2.0 grade point average
  • Must have at least five (5) semesters remaining before graduation
  • Must commit to work three (3) work periods with the same employer
  • Must attend a Co-op Orientation and meet with the Coordinator
  • Must complete and sign the Co-op Application & Applicant Agreement forms
  • Must register in the  Career Link jobs database and upload a current resume (resume has to be approved)
  • Must abide by all Cooperative Education guidelines
