Jill Forest, M.A.

Associate Director
of Career Services

jforest@spsu.edu

Jill F. Forest is currently the Associate Director of Career Services at SPSU. In this position, she oversees all on-campus recruiting including semi-annual career fairs for 90+ companies and 700+ students. She also coaches domestic and international students on interviewing skills, job searching and resume writing.

Jill works closely with the International Student Services Coordinator to make certain that international students are aware of career opportunities.   Related to this effort, she presented “The Internationalization of Career and Counseling” at the GAIE Winter Conference in 2013. In it, she described the ethical obligation that Student Affairs personnel have in providing culturally appropriate services to international students.

In January 2013, she was accepted into NAFSA’s year-long international education Academy. Her learning focus was on education abroad, international student services and campus internationalization. Additionally, she also is an Adviser for the African Student Association.

She is quite passionate about her role in the Cross-Cultural Conversations Committee that was recently formed at SPSU by the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Since becoming a member, she facilitated a visit to the William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum for faculty and staff, arranged for a Holocaust Survivor to speak at SPSU and negotiated to have the first African-American female Pulitzer Prize winner Isabel Wilkerson to speak at SPSU in January 2013. Additionally, she created and published an online reading list for all age groups and arranged to have a live performance of Los Valientes at SPSU this past fall in observance of Hispanic Heritage Month

She has memberships in the Georgia Association of International Educators (GAIE), the International Association of Student Affairs and Services (IASAS), the National Association of Chinese Americans (NACA), The National Association for Asian-American Professionals, (NAAAP) and the International Educators Association (NAFSA).

Jill attended The Ohio State University where she majored in Psychology and minored in History. While there, she volunteered in the English Conversation Partner Program, The Office for Disability Services and participated in a graduate-level research class on Multicultural Issues in Psychology. She later attended Argosy University where she earned her Master’s degree in Psychology with a specialty in Counseling.

She resides in a suburb of Atlanta, GA with her husband Derek and their two dogs. When she is not working, she loves to read non-fiction and historical fiction books, attending cultural events and walking her two dogs. She also provides respite care for foster parents on a monthly basis and has years of experience with cross-cultural foster parenting.
