Admissions Requirements for International Students
Southern Polytechnic State University welcomes admissions applications from all interested
students. To apply, submit the following materials to the Admissions Office by:
July 1 for the fall semester
November 1 for the spring semester
April 1 for the summer semester:
Freshman international applicants whose native language is not English are exempt from taking the SAT I /ACT; however, they must take the Compass Exam on campus and score 80 on the Reading, 74 on the Writing and 43 on the Algebra exams. International transfer applicants who have a least 30 transferable semester hours are exempt from the SAT I/ACT and the Compass. A minimum total score of 550 (213 computer based, 79 Internet based) on the TOEFL is required. All other entrance requirements are the same as for native students. Students who have visa types of F-1 must submit certification of financial security. The Admissions Office requires applicants to send their international credentials to an approved SPSU professional evaluation service before being considered for admissions.
International Students must provide proof of financial stability.
SEVIS (I-901) Fee
The SEVIS (I-901) fee is paid by international students applying for an F-1or J-1
visa. The fee for the F-1 visa is $200. The Fee for the J-1 visa is $180. This fee
is used to cover costs associated with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information
System (SEVIS). This fee must be paid before your visa interview. A copy of your
receipt should be taken to your visa interview.
If you meet the criteria below you must pay the SEVIS fee:
1. Prospective students with “initial attendance” I-20 document, who are applying for an “initial” F-1 visa from outside the U.S.For more information on the SEVIS fee, please visit; www.fmjfee.com. The Coordinator of International Student Services can also answer any questions that you may have.
