ATTIC DIRECTOR

Dr. Orr holds a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.  His teaching and research interests include composition, TESOL, critical discourse analysis, and language teaching and learning.  He has presented papers at the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA), Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Conference on College Composition and Communication (4C’s), National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and International Society for Language Studies (ISLS).

Dr. Orr has taught First-Year Composition, World Literature, ESOL Composition, Oral Communication for International Students, Written Communication for International Students, and City as Text, an Honors Seminar with a study abroad component in Rome, Italy.  He has travelled extensively in India, South Africa, and Thailand, and has visited Quebec, London, Paris, Singapore, and Berlin.

As ATTIC Director, Dr. Orr strives to provide quality, student-centered, academic services to all SPSU students by working collaboratively with faculty and staff.  He supervises full-time and part-time professionals, graduate assistants and tutors, and is responsible for leadership in advising, tutoring, testing/disability services, multicultural services, and international student services. He serves on the Academic Leadership Council, composed of deans and department chairs, the Composition Committee, composed of faculty in the English, Technical Communication, Media Arts Department, and the Deans Council, composed of Deans in Schools of Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Computing and Software Engineering, Engineering and Technology Management, and the Library Director.
