The College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Meeting was called to order by Barbara Thomas, Moderator, at 12:05 p.m.
 
A report was presented by Julie Newell, who attended the University Planning Council. The subject of the presentation involved the budget problems facing the university during the coming academic year, and why/how these problems have developed.
Elections were held for the academic year beginning July 1, 2001. Nomination were as follows:
 
1. Moderator - Richard Bennett (nominated at March meeting)
2. Secretary - Steve Edwards (nominated at March meeting)
3. No other nominations were received or made from the floor.
4. Election of both nominees was by unanimous agreement of those attending the meeting.
Acting Dean Mike Murphy reminded the faculty of several upcoming meetings, and mentioned other possible issues of interest to the faculty:
 
1. Student awards ceremony, April 24
2. Faculty recognition ceremony, April 25
3. General faculty meeting, April 26
4. Commencement, May 12
5. Raise recommendations have been sent forward to the VPAA's office
6. June 4-8, a one week session for Math, Science, and Computing teachers will be held on campus. This is funded through Yamacraw.
Incoming Acting Dean Alan Gabrielli spoke briefly concerning the coming academic year, emphasizing his intention to meet with all faculty in the A&S school.
 
Announcements:
 
1. The SIS degree proposal is in final stages of preparation to forward to the Chancellor and Regents.
2. The Goizueta Foundation is visiting today concerning a possible large donation toward a language lab.
3. Julie Newell reminded faculty of the Earth Day Festival and invited participation.
4. HTC invited the faculty to an open house for their Portfolio class, to be April 26 in J212.
Meeting adjourned at 12:28p.m.
