  Minutes of the School of Arts & Sciences, April 15, 2003
  1. Rich Bennett was elected Arts & Sciences Moderator. Meg Dillon was elected Secretary.
  2. Nancy Reichart gave a report from the Peer Observation Committee. The Guidelines Governing Classroom and Laboratory Peer Observation were approved as amended.
  3. Dean's Comments
    • The Peer Observation Committee is now charged with recommending appropriate methods for assessing teaching effectiveness. This committee will now be referred to as the Teaching Assessment Committee.
    • Observations will be mandatory in a few years, due to accreditation requirements.
    • Some one-year instructors might be hired. Details will come in May, after budget details are worked out.
    • Two departments still have no applicants for department chair.
