Gabrielli met with department chairs today to discuss the process of faculty evaluations for AY 2004. He reviewed the evaluation process he used for AY 2003 and passed out copies of the current P & P on faculty evaluation and the forms and documents to be used in the evaluation process. Gabrielli will make any necessary corrections to these forms and post them online.
Faculty Rating Form
This form is to be completed by the department chair during each faculty evaluation meeting. Gabrielli encouraged the department chairs to be very specific in the details of the evaluation.
Faculty Expectations Form
Annual Activity Report
Prepared by the faculty member specifying their activities for the prior year. Department chairs should decide how they want this information formatted; either in narrative form or in a more concise itemized list and let their faculty know of their preference.
Teaching Assessment Form
Prior to the evaluation meeting, the faculty member prepares this form based on information received from student evaluations and self evaluation. The faculty member should provide feedback indicating strengths and weaknesses and ways to improve teaching.
Faculty should include copies of SIR class reports for the last two semesters. It is not necessary to use the SIR summary sheet.
Department Chairs are to set the deadline (in March) by which faculty packets are due to them and notify their faculty as soon as possible. Department Chairs will go over faculty packets, conduct classroom visits, etc. and schedule evaluation meetings with their faculty. All faculty will be given the opportunity to attach comments to the Faculty Expectations Form and the Faculty Evaluation Form.
The department chairs agreed to use the following weighting scale:
|Professional growth and development||12.5%||12.5%||12.5%|
Gabrielli will provide the department chairs with a spreadsheet which is to be completed at the end of the evaluation process and forwarded to him for his records.
