Please join me in congratulating Dr. Bill Carpenter of the SPSU Architecture Department for his receipt of the American Institute of Architect's 2012 "Bernard B. Rothschild Award." The Rothschild Award is the highest honor that AIA Georgia can bestow on an individual, alive or deceased, for distinguished service to the profession of Architecture in the State of Georgia by an architect who exemplifies the principles of the profession. Excerpts from the press release on Bill's award include: "Bernard B. Rothschild Award to William J. Carpenter FAIA, Atlanta, GA, a renowned educator, who founded Southern Polytechnic State University's Design-Build Studio which allows students to design, raise funds and construct community based projects. He has applied astute leadership skills in service to the American Institute of Architects. His imagination and enthusiasm helped to create the successful AIA Atlanta High School Design Competition and he was a founding member of the National Young Architects Forum. Carpenter has served on both the boards of AIA Atlanta and AIA Georgia. Currently, he serves as South Atlantic Region Director and is the National Board's liaison to the Center for Integrated Practice, the Project Delivery Knowledge Community and the Council of Emerging Professionals. Dr. Carpenter was elevated to Fellowship in AIA in 2001 and through his innovative design firm, he affirms his commitment to educating and inspiring young professionals."
