About the Camp

Camp Information

The Aerospace Engineering Camp is designed for middle and high school students (12-18 year old). The idea is to spark their interest in Aerospace Engineering in particular and Engineering in general. Students will learn the basics of aircraft flight, types of aircraft, components of aircraft, helicopters and spaceships etc. The camp includes aircraft design, build, and fly competitions. The camp also includes aircraft simulations and flight demonstrations.

Fees and Payment Schedule

The fee is $250 / camp. There is no other fee associated with the camp. The camp fee includes all instruction, course material, camp material, T-Shirts, Certificates of completion, and tours. The camp is run on non-profit basis. Camp registration is complete only when the camp fee is received. Half day rates are not available.

Discount

We are looking for chaperons to help manage students during the camp. If you register early, we may be able to give you a 50% discount if you offer to help as a chaperon. Contact the camp director at aerocamp@spsu.edu for details.

 Lunch

No food is provided during the camp. Students are requested to bring their own lunch / snacks every day. There will be lunch breaks every day. For safety reasons, students are requested to consume food only during the breaks.

 Behavior Issues

All behavior issues will be discussed with the parent or guardian. If the behavior issues persist and/or endanger another camper or camp staff, this could result in the removal of the child from all camp activities.

 Camp Size (Session Limits)

Each camp is limited to a maximum of 40 participants. Registrations are accepted on a first-paid, first-enrolled basis. To ensure your child gets the camp of his or her choice, early registration is recommended.

 Age Groupings

Students are split into two main groups. Group Alpha has students of ages 12-14 and group Bravo has students of ages 15-18. These groups are further split into smaller groups of 3-4 students. Students in these groups work together on projects, presentations and flight competitions.

 Cancellation and Transfer

We understand that life happens. There are multiple Aerospace Engineering camps offered every year. If for any reason, your child can not attend the camp and you have made the payment, we will make every effort to accommodate your child in any of the subsequent camps. If that is not possible, we will use the payment made in a given year as credit towards the next year’s camp. If for some reason, your child can not attend the camp at all, we request that you consider transferring the spot to another student. If that is not possible, we ask that you consider making a donation towards the camp. Unfortunately the camp fee is non-refundable.
