Dean
Position Summary
The dean of Extended University
(EU) is the academic officer immediately responsible for the operation
and management of all functions and units in the Extended University. These
include budget, personnel, planning, program development, and program administration.
The dean works with the EU staff so that each unit and program area maintains
consistently high standards. The dean reports to the vice president for
academic affairs and serves on the Deans Council.
Essential Functions

Overseeing the hiring and evaluating
of EU staff who report directly to the dean

Supervising the hiring and evaluating
of staff who report to directors
-
Promoting standards that result
in excellent programs
-
Ensuring a prompt response to
the concerns of EU customers
-
Initiating and managing collaborative
opportunities inside and outside SPSU
-
Providing leadership for enhancing
the visibility, enrollment, and resources of EU and SPSU
-
Developing and managing the
budget, technical support, and other EU services
-
Leading EU staff in strategic
planning for each unit and program/service area
-
Communicating effectively within
EU, on campus, and in the community on behalf of EU
-
Providing leadership for developing
and managing extended services
-
Recommending annual raises for
EU staff
Additional Responsibilities

Working with the assistant vpaa
and faculty to pursue, develop, and manage grants and contracts in support
of research and service
-
Serving as lead staff person
in developing new initiatives for future funding and staffing
-
Striving to increase the contribution
from EU departmental sales and service areas to support academic functions
within the university
-
Completing other duties as assigned
by the SPSU administration

workforce within EU
Qualifications
-
Earned doctorate, administrative
experience in a college or university, and senior-level experience in an
extension operation; or the equivalent through a combination of education
and/or experience

Record of success in the field
of continuing education and distance learning

Excellent communication skills
