Sick Leave Without Pay

  1. Any employee unable to return to work after exhausting all accumulated sick leave and accrued vacation leave may be granted sick leave without pay for a period up to one year.
  2. Furthermore, such approved sick leave shall allow the employee the right to elect to continue his or her group insurance benefits (with the institution continuing its share of the cost for such period).
  3. All other benefits are prohibited that would otherwise accrue to the employee.

Educational Leave Without Pay

  1. Persons who have been continuously employed as full-time employees at Southern Polytechnic State University for three (3) years or more may be granted educational leave without pay for periods up to one year at a time for the purpose of encouraging professional development (education, or working, or consulting in industry).
  2. The employee will be expected to exhaust all accrued vacation leave prior to any such leave without pay.
  3. Any approved leave shall allow the employee the right to elect to continue his or her group insurance benefits (with the institution continuing its share of the cost for such period).
  4. All other benefits are prohibited which would otherwise accrue to the employee.
