Deans Council Minutes

10-17-2002

NOTE: At times, issues of confidentiality may require that some items discussed in meetings be excluded from these minutes.

PRESENT: Bill Barnes, Dick Aynsley, Alan Gabrielli, Mike Murphy, Sandy Pfeiffer, Dawn Ramsey, Judy Waits, Steve Hamrick

1. Timetable for Program Reviews:
Hamrick noted that several self-studies should have begun. He will provide key elements that are needed in each self-study and program review. He submitted a timeline of the work to be done for discussion. Hamrick will review the documents on program review from the BOR and determine which programs must be completed this year.

2. Part-time Budget Needs for Spring 03:
Deans are to tell Hamrick how much more money they will need in the spring than what they have budgeted for part-time faculty.

3. P&P for Public Service:
Ramsey handed out the BOR approved P&P for Public Service. She noted that the P&P may have monetary implications. Ramsey also handed out an activity report from the Grant Development Center.

4. BOR:
Pfeiffer has spoken to Frank Butler at the BOR about the China proposal/letter-of-intent. Pfeiffer has urged the BOR to consider the Systems Engineering proposal at the November meeting.

5. Middle Georgia College:
Mary Ellen Wilson, VPAA of Middle Georgia College, will visit our campus on November 6 to discuss additional collaborative programs in areas such as CET and Software Engineering.

6. Summer School:
Deans discussed a possible summer school session that would include a 9-week session plus an overlapping 5-week session. If approved, the program would be evaluated after the summer to see if is should be continued. Tentative dates to begin and end would be June 2 - August 4. Hamrick will talk to Tom Currin, Faculty Senate moderator, about Senate consideration for the calendar changes. Plus the deans will continue discussion with their faculty. Then a decision will be made soon. (It was noted that the dates would coincide with Cobb County schools, suggesting we would do heavy marketing in the county.)
