NOTE: At times, issues of confidentiality may require that some items discussed in meetings be excluded from these minutes.
PRESENT: Bill Barnes,
Dick Aynsley, Alan Gabrielli, Mike Murphy, Dawn Ramsey, Judy Waits, and
Steve Hamrick
ABSENT: Sandy Pfeiffer
1. Extra Compensation
P&P:
Ramsey handed out a second
draft of the Extra Compensation P&P. The deans discussed many of the
issues involved with extra compensation. Ramsey is to make final corrections,
based on the discussions, and send a final draft to the Faculty Senate
for comment.
2. Distance Learning:
Ramsey had compiled some
notes on Distance Learning and a budget sheet for handouts. She wanted
to know if there was support for distance learning as she is getting mixed
messages. There was discussion that if we are going to do DL then we should
do it right with appropriate funding. DL also needs to be marketed differently.
Several items need clarification before a plan can be presented, such as:
tuition for E-Core, tuition for the MBA, and identifying all DL courses,
as well as funding. Ramsey will write a draft of recommendation for a future
deans council meeting.
3. Satellite Dish:
Ramsey noted that there
is a huge satellite dish outside Howell dorm that should be surplused unless
others can determine another use. Please let her know if it should not
be surplused.
4. New Faculty Orientation:
Ramsey will hold an orientation
for new faculty to inform them about the CIT, CTE, and Grant Development
Center. The orientation will be open to all interested faculty as well.
Information will be forthcoming.
5. New Faculty Orientation
Information on the Web:
Gabrielli will work with
Pfeiffer to have a listing of pertinent P&Ps and other essential information
for new faculty to be located on the Academic Affairs website (with links).
6. Rock #1:
Deans are to give Hamrick
their wish list of activities by Friday, August 23, so that he can compile
them for Pfeiffer.
7. Graduate Assistants:
Hamrick will look at the
existing policy to determine if the guidelines are being followed for Graduate
Teaching Assistants and Graduate Research Assistants as to course load,
compensation, fee waiver, etc.
8. FTE:
Hamrick noted that FTE number
is no longer necessary on the EIF forms.
