Judy Waits, Steve Hamrick
1. Honors Program:
The deans discussed the
original Honors program proposal that a faculty committee wrote several
years ago. The deans agreed to support Pfeiffer's recommendation to have
the program in place by fall of 2003. Gabrielli will resurrect the committee
as soon as possible to refine and/or update the proposal. The ETM, CSE,
and ACC deans are to appoint one faculty from each school to serve on the
committee, in addition to the several A&S faculty serving on it.
2. Georgia Humanities
Council:
Pfeiffer distributed a handout
from the Georgia Humanities Council asking SPSU to nominate a student and
an alternate to attend a statewide Leadership Forum in November. Deans
are to give names to Pfeiffer as soon as possible.
3. Retention Rates:
Soon the USG institutions
will be asked by the Board of Regents to develop estimates of student retention
rates for the near future at each institution.
4. ATL:
Hamrick reviewed the academic
teaching load and determined that with the various resignations/ and retirements,
some programs need to hire new faculty. Pfeiffer gave the go ahead for
the deans to advertise various faculty positions for fall of 2003. He encouraged
deans to save money by condensing and combining ads and by referring applicants
to details included on web sites.
