PRESENT: Bill Barnes,
Dick Aynsley, Alan Gabrielli, Mike Murphy, Sandy Pfeiffer, Dawn Ramsey,
Judy Waits, Steve Hamrick
1. MGT Study:
Hamrick said that the MGT
consultants doing the faculty salary study want to hold focus groups with
faculty. Deans are to find a time (1-1/2 hours) for their school faculty
and let Hamrick know asap. Murphy set a time for CSE of 2:30 - 4:00 on
September 12. The location will be determined later.
2. Remedial Math Course:
Hamrick requested suggestions
for the problem of students who test below our first math course. Gabrielli
will be talking to the Math faculty soon. A future DC agenda in fall term
will be solving various problems associated with retention.
3. Extra Compensation
P&P:
Ramsey drafted an extra
compensation P&P. There were many issues to consider, including adherence
to the BOR policy and selection of a formula to be used for payment. Deans
are to give their suggestions to Ramsey by Monday, August 12.
4. Continuing Education
P&P:
It was decided to table
the discussion until after the October BOR meeting, at which the subject
will be addressed.
5. New Faculty Orientation:
Ramsey presented a proposed
new faculty orientation for discussion. It was decided to look at this
issue more thoroughly at next week's meeting. A suggestion was to have
the current faculty handbook updated and placed online.
6. Honors Program:
Pfeiffer said that he would
like to see the Honors Program begin Fall 2003, with planning to occur
this year. Gabrielli will circulate to the deans the Honors proposal before
next week's meeting.
7. Senior Grades Due:
Hamrick noted that senior
grades are due by noon Thursday, August 8.
