NOTE: At times, issues of confidentiality may require that some items discussed in meetings be excluded from these minutes.
PRESENT: Dick Aynsley, Alan Gabrielli, Mike Murphy, Sandy Pfeiffer, Dawn Ramsey, Judy Waits, Steve Hamrick
ABSENT: Bill Barnes
1. Shoreline System:
Bill Gruszka attended part
of the meeting to discuss installation of the new Shoreline phone system.
At this time, only Buildings B and J are affected.
2. Kickoff Date:
The Fall 2003 “kick-off”
day will be Wednesday, August 13, with various university activities to
be announced. Student orientation day will be Thursday, August 14,
following by a day for school, department, and other meetings on Friday,
August 15.
3. Night Services:
We discussed ways to provide
additional services to students who attend school at night. Hamrick
will talk with Jeff Orr about possible enhancements to the ATTIC.
4. Hybrid Courses:
We discussed information
gathered from the schools about “hybrid” courses (i.e., those that mix
some distance learning with traditional classroom study). It was
determined that each dean is responsible for maintaining quality control
for these courses and for keeping an up-to-date record of what courses
are included in this category each term. Also, correct coding in
Banner is essential. Ramsey noted that Fred Hartfield will be the
faculty lead on the Distance Learning Task Force. This Task Force
will meet soon to look at the P&P as well as standards for distance
learning.
5. Comprehensive Program
Review:
Gabrielli and Aynsley reported
on their study of ways to improve the comprehensive program review system.
After some discussion, the group agreed to discuss the topic again this
coming summer or fall, after collecting information from the current set
of program reviews and after learning more about the new SACS guidelines
that will be in place for our 2008 accreditation.
6. Budget:
Hamrick and Pfeiffer gave
an overview of the current budget process, including their preparations
for a Senior Staff session next Tuesday. The discussion focused on
selecting the faculty positions that would be most important to fill in
light of current budget problems.
