PRESENT: Bill Barnes,
Dick Aynsley, Joel Fowler, Alan Gabrielli, Mike Murphy, Sandy Pfeiffer,
Dawn Ramsey, Judy Waits
VISITORS: Steve Hamrick
and Dave Cline
1. Cable Channel Use
for Coming Year:
The group discussed the
possible sharing of the Cobb cable channel with other educational institutions.
Pfeiffer asked for written comments by Thursday on (1) types of programming
SPSU should offer, (2) target markets and audience, and (3) time of day
we would use the cable channel.
2. Deans' Role in Proposal
Sign-offs:
Ramsey spoke about the proposal
process-especially the need to have each proposal reviewed in a timely
manner. After much discussion, the deans agreed to take a significant role
in the sign-off. Proposals should be in the deans' offices one week before
submission. Ramsey is working on a budget worksheet to help with the process.
Faculty are encouraged to contact our grant writer, Joyce Brown, very early
in the process.
3. Title III Application
Priorities:
Ramsey distributed information
about Title III grants. Funding is about $350,000/year for 5 years. It
was suggested that the Enhancement Team Report be used as a starting point
in developing our report to submit for Title III monies. The report is
due March 22, 2002. Ramsey will coordinate the project, with help from
Pfeiffer and others.
4. BS/BA Majors:
Hamrick discussed the problem
of students requesting both a BS and a BA in the same major after taking
an additional 30 hours course work. Fowler will contact Wiseman to call
a special Undergraduate Curriculum Meeting to discuss the issue. A decision
should be made before the catalog goes to the printer so that correct language
can be incorporated. Pfeiffer will write a new P&P on the topic.
5. Academic Affairs Building
Space:
Hamrick has the books on
instruction-related space on campus. There was much discussion on the need
for a clear process and plan for instructional space on campus. Hamrick
has agreed to continue as "space coordinator," with guidelines provided
by the Deans Council and final approval by the VPAA. More discussion will
follow guidelines for lab, classroom, office, and other academic space.
