1. New Member:
We welcomed John Sweigart,
the new program head for MET.
2. Center for Teaching
Excellence:
Dawn Ramsey will soon announce
the CTE awards and the director. Pfeiffer will be working with various
parties to determine where the CTE will be located.
3. Q&A on Summer
School, Workload, and Related Issues:
Fowler asked that program
heads keep him informed on summer courses with low enrollment. He said
not to cancel any courses right now, except in cases where the program
head is sure the class won't make.
Siddiqi suggested that summer and fall registration be held at the same time to benefit students. Hamrick said he has a timeline laid out and that this change is definitely doable. We'll discuss it in more detail at another time.
Program heads are to give
Fowler their preliminary faculty assignment reports for fall as soon as
they are able to. The formal deadline is the middle of June. Fowler said
not to hesitate to email him with any questions related to the FAR or any
other issue.
4. Chancellor's Visit:
The new chancellor and the
president stopped by on their tour of the campus. Dr. Meredith spoke briefly
and mentioned that he is very impressed with Southern Poly and is hearing
good things about the university.
5. SIRS:
The company that processes
the SIRS can support online evaluations of online courses--using the same
questions. We probably will purchase this service, as it is reasonably
priced.
6. End of Year Monies:
The deans are putting together
a prioritized list. ETACT money will be distributed among the schools as
well. ETACT can only be used for instructional related purchases.
7. India Trip:
Bennett and Dasigi will
leave for India tomorrow to foster a collaboration between SPSU and a consortium
of schools.
8. China Trip:
Pfeiffer will visit China
in late June to advance a faculty/student exchange program and to discuss
WTO training and possible distance degree programs with one of the regional
governments.
9. Future Meetings:
The ALC members agreed to
continue meeting on the first Thursday of the month at 2:00 in J157.
