Interim Administrative Director III: Registrar and Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs

Position Summary
The registrar/assistant to the vice president for academic affairs (R/AVPAA) is a one-year (FY2003) position that reports to the vice president for academic affairs (VPAA) on matters within Academic Affairs and to the vice president for student and enrollment services (VPSES) on matters related to the Registrar's Office. The VPAA will evaluate the R/AVPAA's work, with input from the VPSES about registrar's functions.

Essential Functions
Note: All functions listed below are advisory to the VPAA and/or VPSES

  1. Serves as the university's registrar
  2. Oversees the Academic Affairs budget and serves as liaison to the Budget Office
  3. Monitors the Annual Teaching Load program
  4. Manages faculty workloads
  5. Manages use of classroom and office space within Academic Affairs
  6. Coordinates SPSU programs on other USG campuses
  7. Chairs various working groups as assigned
  8. Work closely and effectively with deans, program heads, and directors
  9. Manages the academic course schedule
  10. Manages cross-divisional issues such as grade reporting, transfer credit, CAPP, and petitions to faculty
  11. Performs various other duties as assigned by the VPAA and/or VPSES
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Oversees work of the associate registrar, who supervises the day-to-day business in the Registrar's Office
  2. Attends various meetings in the VPAA's and VPSES's divisions, as directed, including the Deans Council and Academic Leadership Council
  3. Directly supervises the activities of one staff support person
Desirable Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
  1. Thorough knowledge of University System policies and procedures
  2. Competence in use of systems, written expression, and interpersonal communication
  3. Excellent ability to solve problems, handle details, and organize information
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in field of use to position (master's degree preferred)
  2. Experience in a demanding, cross-functional managerial position
  3. Appropriate combination of training and employment to meet needs of the position
