Deans
Council Minutes
September 19, 2001
NOTE: At times, issues of confidentiality may require that
some items discussed in meetings be excluded from these minutes.
Present: Bill Barnes, Dick Aynsley,
Joel Fowler, Alan Gabrielli, Mike Murphy, Sandy Pfeiffer, Dawn Ramsey, Judy
Waits
GUEST: Ron Koger
HAND-OUT FROM BOARD OF
REGENTS:
Ramsey distributed a handout from William R. Bowes, Vice Chancellor for Fiscal
Affairs, on the subject of Tuition Policy and Agreements with Corporations,
Organizations and Other Entities.
PROGRAM HEAD JOB
DESCRIPTION: The
group discussed a few changes in the draft of the program head job description,
to be discussed at tomorrow’s Academic Leadership Council meeting.
STUDENTS WITH PREVIOUS
UNDERGRAD DEGREE: Koger led a discussion on how to handle Core transfer credit for
students who already have an undergraduate degree from another accredited
college or university. After much
discussion, it was decided that Koger would investigate how other institutions
deal with the issue. The deans will
discuss the topic again at another meeting.
EVALUATION OF DEANS: Pfeiffer led a discussion on
options for evaluating deans this year.
The deans are to email any suggestions to Pfeiffer by Monday. Whatever form is used, the process will involve
collecting information from each school’s faculty and staff.
FACULTY REVIEWS: Deans will consider ways
to simplify all the evaluation processes, including graduate faculty status,
post-tenure, and pre-tenure reviews.
Fowler suggested that for post-tenure review, faculty could use the last
five years of the annual evaluation as the packet. Graduate faculty, if not applying for
provisional status, also could use the last five years of annual evaluations
for their packets. Discussion will
continue at a later meeting
FACULTY CONSULTING: General guidelines and
history were discussed. Pfeiffer will
review the Board policy on consulting, and discussion will continue later. There are no urgent issues in this regard.
