Deans
Council Minutes
August 15, 2001
NOTE: At times, issues of confidentiality may require that
some items discussed in meetings be excluded from these minutes.
Present: Bill Barnes, Dick Aynsley,
Joel Fowler, Alan Gabrielli, Mike Murphy, Sandy Pfeiffer, Dawn Ramsey, Judy
Waits
The
president has scheduled a town hall meeting for students on October 9. Deans should plan to attend. Because academic topics are included, this
meeting also will serve as the Academic Affairs student forum for the semester.
The
request for proposals for faculty development funds will be distributed this
week.
We
will examine the way that consulting is being handled across the schools and
programs.
Pfeiffer
will email faculty some additional information on interim promotion and tenure
guidelines.
Fowler
handed out a draft memo about establishing annual teaching loads for each
program. There will be a called program head/deans meeting on August 24 at noon
in J157 to discuss annual teaching loads.
We
discussed the need for services to be available to students on Saturday. Pfeiffer will mention this topic to senior
staff. Some administrative offices are still hard to reach. Perhaps a student survey on administrative
services is needed.
After
all changes are compiled, the draft will be sent to faculty for further
comments. Further definition of
consulting may be needed.
Pfeiffer
will give the QA and MBA proposals back to Aynsley,
who will distribute them to the appropriate program heads for further review.
The
55 actions from the Deans Council retreat in July were reviewed; most have been
completed.
