NOTE:  At times, issues of confidentiality may require that some items discussed in meetings be excluded from these minutes.

Present: Bill Barnes, Dick Aynsley, Joel Fowler, Alan Gabrielli, Mike Murphy, Sandy Pfeiffer, Dawn Ramsey, Judy Waits

BOR Budget Cuts.  We discussed the potential budget cuts coming from the BOR for this year and next, along with their impact on SPSU.

Organizational Chart.  Pfeiffer handed out an updated org chart, which incorporates Fowler’s and Bennett’s positions.

IT.  Gruszka asked to review Restructure Memo #8 on information technology and will consider it in preparing his own proposal.

ITAC.  Ramsey asked for a decision on the makeup of the ITAC committee.  The deans decided that there should be two faculty from each school, one student, the CIO (Bill Gruszka), and David Stone from CIT.  Faculty and Ramsey will be the nine voting members.  The student, Gruszka, and Stone will be non-voting members.  The deans will give Ramsey the names of two faculty for each school by October 15.

Mandatory Advising.  Gabrielli prepared a proposal for mandatory advising for students with less than 45 credit hours. Each school would come up with its own scheme as to who the advisors would be in its area.  Students would see the same advisor (after orientation) for the first two years and would be advised in person, by email, or by phone.  Fowler talked to Hamrick about how to put holds on registration until students are advised.  It is important that faculty would be trained in advising the core.  This proposal will continue on the agenda next week.

Summer Workshop for Students.  Ramsey will prepare a proposal for the October 10 meeting.

Pre-tenure Review.  Deans will consider whether pre-tenure review can be eliminated.  Waits will check with Marci Middleton as to BOR/SACS views.  This topic will be discussed at the next meeting.
