INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LABS MANAGER (Division of Information Technology) 09–314

The Information Technology Labs Manager is responsible for providing an exceptional working environment for students who visit the campus’ general access computer labs. This position strives to provide the highest levels of customer support for the University’s students by managing multiple Division of Information Technology computer labs, the campus telephone switchboard, student technology workshops and the Student Assistants. First level technical support services for students are supported by this position, as well as first response for classroom technology work orders. The Information Technology Labs Manager reports to the Director of Instructional Technology Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Fosters an environment of outstanding customer service.
2. Provides day-to-day management of the IT General Access Computing labs, including: hiring, supervising and assessing Student Assistants; creating/maintaining documentation on training and Information Technology Lab functions; ensuring properly functioning Information Technology Lab equipment, student accounts, print quota software, students’ wireless access; providing equipment checkout services for faculty, staff and students.
3. Hires, trains, and mentors student assistants to create a talented technical support pool for the Division of Information Technology.
4. Manages the Division of Information Technology equipment checkout program.
5. Manages the campus switchboard.
6. Provides first level technical support for students via telephone and walk-up helpdesk.
7. Provides first level classroom technology support via student assistants.
8. Assists with special events equipment setup.
9. Identifies SPSU student body training needs; develops courses; provides training and/or supervises student trainers.
10. Maintains and supports all Division of Information Technology computer labs.
11. Performs related tasks as assigned.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of Mac OS and Linux.
2. Knowledge of Blackboard Vista.
3. Knowledge of Pharos Print Management.
4. Knowledge of Norton Ghost.
5. Knowledge of License Management Tools.
6. College major coursework in Computer Science, Telecommunications or related field.
7. Project and/or helpdesk management experience.
8. Experience working within a professional helpdesk operation.
9. Computer repair and/or support certification (A+, MSCE, etc.).
QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s of science or arts degree from an accredited college or university required. A minimum of three years experience in PC hardware, software and peripherals support required. Supervisory experience. Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service and work with users to determine their needs. Ability to design and provide professional-quality functional and technical documentation and training. Considerable knowledge of Windows in a networked Active Directory environment. Considerable knowledge of PC hardware installation and maintenance. Considerable functional knowledge of PC applications: Microsoft Office, web browsers, use of e-mail, HTML, etc. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills combined with the ability to work with little supervision in a University environment mandatory.
DAYS/HOURS: Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
