BANNER APPLICATIONS SUPPORT SPECIALIST (Division of Information Technology) 09–310

POSITION SUMMARY

The Banner Applications Support Specialist is responsible for assisting the Database Administrator with the maintenance and development of the SCT Banner student information system and all related services.  The project responsibilities for this position are institutional in scope, however, where campus priorities allow, priority will be given to projects related to the Division of Student and Enrollment Services.  The Banner Applications Support Specialist advances and promotes the goals of the IT Division through excellent customer service.  This position may require working additional night and weekend hours. The Banner Applications Support Specialist reports to the Coordinator of Enterprise Applications.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.       Assists with the maintenance of the SCT Banner student information system: basic upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Banner application and related systems.

2.       Develops Banner reports and data extractions using SQLPlus and PL/SQL based on user requirements and specifications.

3.       Performs local problem resolution and/or functional analysis for Banner users.

4.       Performs related duties as assigned.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1.       Possess a superior customer service-based work ethic.

2.       Demonstrated experience with an enterprise-class relational database.

3.       Demonstrated experience developing web-based database front-ends using C and/or Perl in a Unix environment.

4.       Demonstrated ability to operate in a mission-critical capacity.

5.       Demonstrated ability to work with users in identifying their data access/query/reporting needs.

6.       Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills combined with the ability to work with little supervision in a group environment.

7.       Extensive knowledge of the function of SCT Banner strongly preferred.

8.       Extensive navigational skills within a Unix-based environment.

9.       Experience with the Oracle RDBMS strongly preferred.

10.   Ability to use PL/SQL to write modules, functions and procedures from specifications.

11.   Knowledge of Crystal Reports and at least one scripting language a plus.

12.   Proficient navigational skills within a Unix-based command-line environment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor of arts/bachelor of science from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years experience in support of an enterprise-class database application required; or a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or related field preferred. Experience with the Oracle RDBMS product strongly preferred.
